Women Are More Fragile, After Divorce

The halls are full of men and women whose hopes have been dashed. They are more crowded than in the previous years. But the number of women is still more than men. In the past 19 years, divorce statistics has increased 3 times. According to the official statistics, there is one divorce out of each 4 marriages in Tehran.

The woman who is on the threshold of divorce would ignore all of her legal rights (such as dowry, alimony, even in some cases her children...). She will be faced with difficult financial troubles.

How can she control her psychological health in such a condition? Generally, women are more influenced by the effects of divorce than men.

Dividing stress into two kinds, real stress and the disease-like one, Dr. Fazl-Ali, a psychologist said, "The anxiety derived from loss of spouse is a disease-like stress." Research shows that the negative effects of divorce are so harder than losing spouse.

"Having the sense of possession among women makes them accept loss of spouse and live for years in loneliness, and adopt to solitude. "But divorce has a different condition, because the woman feels her source of love and affection being destroyed, and would find a worse condition."

Dr. Fazl-Ali went on to say that logic is in priority compared with feelings among the men and there is a difference case in women. This is because of delicate feelings, God has given to women. Females are fragile but hardy flowers. They would be influenced by the least psychological effects. If their emotional feelings receive proper response, they would find an extreme sense of tolerance.

He referred to mental divorce as more risky than legal divorce, adding that there are some women who have matrimonial life with their spouse, but have no attraction to them. They are suffering from a mental divorce. Their minds have no relationship or common point. This has a worse effect on them, and a majority of divorced women in our country are suffering from this situation.

Dr. Amini Afshar, a social worker expressed worry over the rising divorce rate, adding that, the age of divorce is decreasing, it is between the ages of 18-30. 80 percent of those seeking divorce are women. Women are forced to live with irresponsible men, some of whom are addicted.

If the women were aware of their legal rights, the problems would decline the negative feeling in some extent. Women have a low tolerance level, and they ignore all of their legal and religious rights, he added.

Generally, rising divorce rates should be a wakeup call to the cultural officials. The children are the main victims of divorce, as the experts say, we should consider divorce as the last solution.
